JOTA96 was created in 1996 by graduates in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minho.
This initiative resulted from the need to respond to the construction market increasingly demanding on energy effciency of HVAC systems. On the other hand the European Union Directives, requires that the works and its heating, cooling and ventilation systems are designed and executed so that the amount of energy required in use will be low, given the prevailing conditions and the occupants.
The energy performance of buildings should be calculated based on a methodology that includes, in addition to thermal insulation other factors such as heating and air conditioning, the use of renewable energy sources and design of the building.
Given the impact that long term, the buildings will have in terms of energy consumption and new buildings must meet minimum energy performance requirements adapted to local climatic conditions. As the application of alternative energy supply is not generally explored to its full potential, is an assessment of technical feasibility, environmental and economic feasibility of these systems.
